NEW GENERATION OF TERRITORY POLICE OFFICERS GRADUATE FROM CADET PROGRAM

The Northern Territory Government is building the next generation of Territory Police through Vocational Education Training (VET).

Under the Northern Territory Government, Year 11 students who are interested in a future in the NT Police Force are provided the opportunity to experience life in the force and earn qualifications over an 18 month course.

This week, 20 Cadets graduated from the Northern Territory Police College in an official ceremony, after completing the Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services Cadet Program.

They all graduated with a Certificate II in Community Engagement which involved attending a week long Community Engagement camp to a remote community alongside induction exposure training with NT Emergency Services.

Cadets also attended a three day Resilience Camp in which they consolidate all the skills they learned throughout the program into a practical scenario, alongside a road crash rescue and basic firefighting course.

Work experience placements are a key component of the VET Course, with Cadets competing a total of three weeks of placements in either a Police Station, PFES College, NT Fire and Rescue, and NT Emergency Services.

Following these placements, a number of the now graduating Cadets are employed part time, and will expand on their employment after graduation.

Throughout this 18 month course, Cadets additionally spent one day a week at Charles Darwin University completing a Certificate III in Business, further adding to their qualifications and expanding their career options in the Police Force.
