The Workforce Australia Local Jobs program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR).

The Local Jobs program is designed to help address current and emerging workforce needs by building and reshaping the capacity of local communities. As a placed-based initiative, the Local Jobs program acknowledges that regions across Australia have unique characteristics and require responses that reflect and leverage local conditions to best support the needs of individuals and employers.

Local knowledge is essential in identifying challenges and developing solutions. The Local Jobs Program supports this with the following elements in each region:

  • an Employment Facilitator
  • a Local Jobs and Skills Taskforce
  • a Local Jobs Plan
  • projects and activities that provide local solutions to address barriers to employment, funded through a Local Recovery Fund or the National Priority Fund.

Employment Facilitator

Employment Facilitators are on the ground helping employers fill vacancies and connecting job seekers with employment and training opportunities. Strong local engagement ensures Employment Facilitators are responsive to the needs of stakeholders and understand local workforce challenges.

As part of their role, Employment Facilitators chair Taskforces, and work with local stakeholders including businesses, employment services providers, and training organisations to develop a Local Jobs Plan.  By working together, targeted activities are developed that meet the priorities of the Local Jobs Plan.
